San Sushi Too: A different kind of bar for a different kind of night.

san-sushi-too

Sometimes you don’t want to go out for drinks at a loud, crowded bar filled with a young crowd.  Sometimes you want to go out for a great meal at a quiet bar with great service and even greater food.  Maybe you’re going out for a date, getting to know someone new, or catching up with an old friend.  These nights are perfect for some sushi and a drink, maybe some pad thai.  There’s one place to get just that, San Sushi Too, Thai One On, and the “B” Lounge.  This little restaurant is a bit off of the beaten path of the main stretch of Towson bars on York Rd. on Pennsylvania Ave.  They serve the best sushi in Towson, (in our humble opinion) some great tai food, and any of your favorite booze, as well as some things you may not have tried.  Few things are as fun as taking a date to grab some sushi and splitting a bottle of sake,  but make sure to pour your date’s and vice versa, it’s the proper etiquette.  A bottle of warm sake on a cold night with a couple of rolls of their specialty sushi will start off any night great, or end it perfectly.  Grab dinner and a movie, head to another bar after your meal, or have a quiet dinner out and an early night it.  San Sushi Too is the perfect place for the best sushi dinner and all of your favorite drinks as well as some new ones, no matter the occasion.

Bread and Circuses Bistro: Off the Beaten Path

blog-outsideDo you find yourself tired of the same bars along York Road? Are you looking for something a more than the overcrowded bar scene and uninspired drink selections for your weekend nights? Nestled quietly just a block off York Road might be just what you’re looking for. Located on the corner of Chesapeake and Delaware avenues, Bread and Circuses is one of Towson’s hidden gems. By day, the bistro is one of the areas top rated restaurants featuring  contemporary American cuisine and daily-changing specials. By night, the bar boasts an eclectic  selection of beers, a wide range of wines by palette and price and a frequently updated list of inventive cocktails.

blog-sandwichThe restaurant and bar itself is the renovated downstairs of a cozy 1920’s style home. The bar inside the restaurant only has six chairs creating a much more intimate feel than your average bar. Their spacious outside bar and patio, however, has room for your entire late night crew while maintaining the same charming atmosphere. After sundown, Orioles and Ravens games are projected on the side of the house, viewable from the patio.

Atmosphere aside, Bread and Circuses offers an impressive selection of drinks suited to any palette and pocket.

  • A selection of over 20 beers ranging from $4 to $9 and frequently updated with seasonal beers, local additions like Brewer’s Art products and classics like Natty Lite
    • I recommend trying the Citra Ass Down IPA or the Hitachino Nest white ale
  • Several wines by the glass that you won’t find anywhere else and that won’t break your wallet
    • Ask your bartender about 19 Crimes red blend, a house favorite
  • 12 artfully crafted, house-designed cocktails
    • Love bacon? Try their “Deliverance” with house made bacon infused bourbon
    • Don’t love bacon? Perhaps “The Shaman” made with fresh basil and honey
  • If that weren’t enough the bar also boasts a collection of whiskeys even Ron Swanson would be proud of

The bar stays open right until 2:00 a.m. so it makes for a perfect last stop to any night out. As well, the kitchen serves the full menu all night as well, so if you’re tired of getting Subway at 2:00 a.m. before going home, might I suggest a medium rare filet mignon to go. A little too much? Maybe their Captain Chesapeake, a giant crab cake BLT sandwich or simply a generous order of the best truffled french fries you’ll ever have for only $7.

If you are looking for a different atmosphere from the regular uptown scene, give this little bistro and bar a try. You might just get hooked on their inspired food and drink creations.
